Optin forms are the heavily underused form of attracting potential customers and clients, especially in small businesses. Optin forms are one of the cornerstones of building a business web site. In this guide, I will show you how to create effective optin forms that get visitors to enter their information and making them your prospects.
The effective optin form is the gateway to your future clients or customers. When your visitors first visit your website, they do not know you. And if you do not capture their contact information, they are lost forever.
This is where the optin form comes in. You offer a useful information for your visitor as an exchange for name and email address. This way you have an opportunity to communicate with the prospects and build trust.
Here are the tips for effective optin forms that get you more potential customers.
Be brief
Make a clear, short, free offer and make it stand out. Show that you have valuable information your prospect can use right now. The relevant information for free is the easiest way to make them to sign up.
Above the fold
Everybody is busy, so make your free offer visible immediately after your page shows up. Do not burry the optin form at the bottom of the page.
Take as less information as possible
Make sure that you require as less information as possible from the visitor to optin. The name and email address are enough. There are many optin forms that require an email address only. If you require more information, e.g. mail address, you must offer more. For example, you might offer free CD/DVD or brochure and in that situation you must take their address, so you can send it to them.
Hero shot
If your offering free PDF of any intangible information, it helps when you can show that product somehow and make it more real and valuable. Use a picture of that mp3, movie, report, or book, brochure – e.g. use picture of the book binder, CD cover, DVD cover, etc. Make sure it is well designed, preferably as a 3D picture.
Set value
Even if you’re offering some information for free, make sure you put a value on it. This makes it more valuable for the visitor and makes him/her to optin. You can use lines like “Get This FREE PDF ($97.00 Value)…” or “A $97.00 Value, Yours FREE!”
Privacy & SPAM
Ensure the prospect, that you will not share their information with anyone and their name and email address is safe. Add a small note below the subscribe button saying something like: “We respect your privacy and your details will never be given to any third party.”
Keep it simple
The creation of the efficient optin form is not that complicated. There are autoresponder services that do most of the work for you (Aweber, iContact, GetResponse, 1ShoppingCart and others). They have pre-built optin forms you can use immediately.
There are no more excuses to start using optin forms to day and start communicating with your prospects.
