There is no doubt that when somebody visits your website for the first time it is very hard to sell them something. There is no trust and relationship there. How to fix it? You will offer something for free and start to communicate with them frequently. But how to do it?
Many times people know how that they have to offer something for free on their website, so they can start a good relationship with their prospects.
They usually have something great, that they can offer for free. The problem is the execution. It looks like a very complicated task for most. It is hard to imagine how the pieces should work together, what to do first, and what to do next.
Here is a simple step by step guide how to do all that and effectively build a business website.
1. Create a thank you page.
Do not make it complicated. All you need is a simple HTML page with the links to your free PDF report or an audio file (or any other free content).
I’m sure you have bought something on the internet, and you have seen the thank you page after your purchase. Model it, use it as an example.
What to put there? Simply thank the visitor for the optin, show them where/how they can download the free offer, and inform them that from time to time you will send them some information and that their privacy is assured.
You can simply create this HTML document in Microsoft Word. Create an empty document, write the text, and create links to your free offer and save it as HTML file. Then upload this file directly to your web site.
For additional protection of your free offer, it is good to give this file a not easy to guess name – e.g. “thankyou-84ss.html”. So the full path to your thank you page will be “www [.] mydomain [.] com/thankyou-84ss.html”
2. Create an optin box (subscription)
The autoresponder services like Aweber, iContact or others have easy to use editors that allow you to create the optin box from a template. Use a simple template where you capture the name and email address.
Make sure that after the optin, the visitor is redirected to your thank you page at “www [.] mydomain [.] com/thankyou-84ss.html”. When creating the optin form, there will be a place to insert the address of the thank you page.
When the optin form is created, take its code and insert it into your website. For the WordPress websites, simply create a new text widget and copy the code there (and add it to the sidebar).
3. Insert your free offer
Take your free offer and upload it to your website. Make sure the offer is uploaded correctly, so the address of the offer is the same as the one on the thank you page (see step 1).
And then test your free offer. Optin through you optin box, make sure that you land on the thank you page, and that you receive the first email from the autoresponder.
